This site is a place to read one essay. It sets no cookies, carries no advertising and loads nothing from third parties. What follows is a plain account of what happens when you open it.
The site is hosted by IONOS SE in Montabaur, Germany. Like any web server, theirs records each request in a log: the IP address it came from, the time, the page requested, the referring page, and the browser and system your device reports. That happens in order to deliver the page and to keep the server secure and stable, which is a legitimate interest under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The logs are kept for a limited period by the provider, are not merged with anything else, and are not used to work out who anyone is. There is a processing agreement with the provider under Article 28 GDPR.
From those same logs the provider produces an aggregate statistic: how many pages were opened, which ones, roughly which countries requests came from, which browsers were used. It exists so that I can tell whether the essay is being read. It uses no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not follow anyone between sessions or across other sites. Because nothing is written to your device for this, no consent banner is required. If you would rather not be part of even that count, you can object under Article 21 GDPR at the address below.
The typefaces are stored on the same server as the site, so no request goes to a font service and nothing is passed to one. There are links out to other places, including LinkedIn and the sources cited in the essay; those transfer data to whoever runs them, but only once you click, and their own notices apply from that point. If you write to me by email, the message and the address it came from are used to answer you and kept for as long as the correspondence and anything following from it needs, and are shown to nobody else.
You can ask what data is held about you (Art. 15 GDPR), have it corrected (Art. 16) or deleted (Art. 17), have its use restricted (Art. 18), receive it in portable form (Art. 20), and object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21).
